Binance.US, the United States subsidiary of the globally recognized cryptocurrency exchange, has appointed a new chief compliance officer. The role has been assumed by Lesley O’Neill, an experienced professional in the field of compliance. Prior to joining Binance.US, O’Neill was the chief compliance officer at Prove Identity, a digital identity verification platform catering to banks, e-commerce merchants, and financial service companies.
Responsibilities of the New Compliance Officer
At Binance.US, O’Neill will spearhead the company’s compliance initiatives. This includes oversight of the company’s Know Your Customer (KYC), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), and sanctions programs. Her appointment comes after the departure of the previous chief compliance officer, Tammy Weinrib, last November.
O’Neill’s appointment comes at a critical time as Binance.US faces regulatory scrutiny from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for allegedly offering unregistered securities to U.S. investors. This ongoing case involves Binance and its founder Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, but Binance.US is not part of the settlement.
Lesley O’Neill’s Experience
O’Neill brings over 15 years of experience to Binance.US, with a background in regulatory and privacy compliance, information security, and identity verification and authentication. Her previous roles include positions at Ernst & Young, Milbank, and Bloomberg.
Her experience, particularly her work with crypto companies to improve their AML and KYC processes at Prove, as well as her tenure in traditional financial services at Ernst & Young, is expected to be extremely beneficial for Binance.US. Norman Reed, the interim CEO of Binance.US, has expressed confidence in O’Neill’s ability to maintain the highest standards of compliance, safety, and security on their platform.
Leadership Changes at Binance.US
Binance.US has seen a few changes in its leadership team recently. In addition to the appointment of a new chief compliance officer, the company also lost its chief risk officer, Sidney Majalya, in November. The company has not yet confirmed whether it is seeking a replacement for this role.
As Binance.US navigates these changes, it’s essential for investors and users to stay informed about the latest developments in the crypto world. A tool like cryptoview.io can be invaluable for tracking trends and staying up-to-date with the latest news.
