In the dawn of 2023, a series of videos surfaced on YouTube, courtesy of CoffeeZilla, spotlighting the CryptoZoo project spearheaded by Logan Paul. The project was designed to allow customers to engage in a game by purchasing egg NFTs, which would subsequently hatch into virtual animals for breeding and gameplay. However, the plot thickened when the social media accounts linked to the platform suddenly went silent, and Logan Paul seemingly sidestepped any discussion about the project.

The Brewing Controversy and Legal Tussle

In the aftermath of CoffeeZilla’s exposé, Logan Paul revealed his intentions to take legal action against the YouTuber. This move was met with a counter lawsuit, a class-action one, from the buyers of both CryptoZoo NFTs and the associated cryptocurrency, $ZOO. The lawsuit also named several other celebrities who had played a role in promoting the project. The plaintiffs accused the defendants of exploiting Logan Paul’s online platforms to promote CryptoZoo’s products to an audience largely unfamiliar with digital currencies, leading to a surge in purchases.

They alleged that the game was either non-functional or non-existent and that the defendants had manipulated the digital currency market for Zoo Tokens to their benefit. They demanded that the defendants relinquish any revenue, profits, or gains accrued from their alleged scheme. However, updates on the court cases have been sparse.

The Unexpected Twist: Logan Paul’s Offer

Fast forward to today, and Logan Paul has announced his decision to refund the NFT purchasers, on the condition that they forfeit their right to sue him. This announcement came on the 4th of January, with Paul declaring that he had earmarked $2.3 million for refunds. However, there was a catch. The refund of 0.1 ETH/NFT, the original launch price, would only be available to holders who had not used their NFTs to create hybrid animals. In simpler terms, if you had attempted to play the game, you were out of luck. Moreover, holders of the $ZOO token were excluded from the refund.

Paul emphasized that he had not profited from the project and criticized two team members, Ibanez and Greenbaum, accusing them of attempting to sabotage the project. He has since filed a cross-claim lawsuit against the duo.

The Demise of the CryptoZoo Game

As for the CryptoZoo game, Paul confirmed what CoffeeZilla had hinted at a year ago: the game is defunct and will never see a full release. He attributed this to ‘regulatory hurdles,’ although it’s plausible that other factors also contributed to the project’s demise.
